A town square in the early morning while the funfair is being built: steel structures, cables on the cobblestones, a church tower behind.

About this project

For Respons, FES is working on the Kermisvisie Valkenswaard, a vision for the town’s annual funfair. A policy question with a cultural starting point: what place will the kermis have in the future?

A vision starts with choices.

What deserves to be preserved? Where is there room for change? And what does that mean for how you look at the kermis?

More than a row of rides.

A kermis is a yearly moment when a square, a town centre and a community come together. Anyone working on the future of such a tradition needs to be able to say what should stay, and why.

Policy with a place in it.

A kermis vision is about space and rules, but also about habit and feeling. Connecting policy to the place and the people it’s about: that’s where the conversation about change begins.

Tell us what you’re working on.

A first idea, a concrete question or a project that needs to move forward. We’re happy to think along.
